Thanks for the Music!

Here at The Old Vicarage, music is part of our every day, whether it is singing along to tunes during an activity, enjoying visits from music entertainers, or preparing tasty food with the radio playing in the background.

Brenda, one of our Senior Care Assistants is known to break into song and loves a good chorus of 'You'll Never Walk Alone' by Gerry & The Pacemakers (we must add Brenda is from Liverpool and loves a good tune) with our residents joining in. Donna enjoys a blast of Dolly Parton, and Abbiejo, our Activities Coordinator likes music from most eras and taps her toes to a bit of Dean Martin and his fellow crooners.

It is well known that music can enhance life as it positively promotes social engagement, and research indicates that it is beneficial for both mental and physical health as it reduces stress which in effect strengthens the immune system. But the thing that most of us are aware of is that it is fun and because of this, we can recall lyrics and musical melodies more easily than remember names of dates!

For more information about the benefits of music as referenced here, the article ' Five reasons why everyone should have music in their lives' by the BBC may be of interest. Please see the link below.

We have included here a video of a few short clips from our recent Australian-themed BBQ, which highlights the joy of music for all.

And finally, a quote from Plato beautifully demonstrates the benefits of music. Looks like Spotify may be beckoning!!!!

"Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything." Plato
